Stanton 500 AL Cartridge
Retail Price: $45
Category: BUDGET LEVEL

The Stanton 500 AL series needles are solid needles for the DJ on a budget. The sound output and performance of these needles are above-average for a needle in this price class. These needles will withstand much abuse with its solid construction and high durability. The skip-resistance is adequate for mixing and blending, but then again, the 500 AL is not meant for the turntablist DJ. Although it may not have the name and flare of other Stanton needles, the 500 AL is still a solid, affordable option.

Shure SC35C Cartridge
Retail Price: $55
Category: INTERMEDIATE LEVEL

The SC35C is Shure’s mid-level offering in the needle department. The SC35C delivers great sound and above average traction for a needle in its class. The stylus is also not as fragile as the M44-7, making it a great alternative for those who cannot afford to shell out close to 160 bucks for a pair of M44-7s. Party DJs and others who aren’t scratch-heavy should give these a look when shopping for new needles.

Shure M44-7 Cartridge
Retail Price: $80
Category: PRO LEVEL

The Technics 1200s of scratch needles, the Shure M44-7 is the best in its class. The superb skip-resistance and great sound output are among the main reasons why the M44-7 is used by most battle DJs. However, the stylus is somewhat fragile, and the record wear-resistance is slightly below average. If scratching is your main focus or you want some of the best skip-resistant needles, then these are for you.
