This record store has been around for over 20 years, and is a legend
in the club / house / dance music scene since the early days of
disco. For all garage house music lovers, this is the place to hit
up. Because it has been around for such a long time, you can occasionally
run into a great old school hip hop record stashed in their dusty
inventory!

This is a personal favorite for many funk / rare groove / jazz DJs.
It is a small record store that has been in existence for many years.
The inventory is carried by a really knowledgeable cat that can
breakdown any historic moment in music history - particularly the
world of jazz and funk. Strictly come here if you are interested
in picking up some funky, rare tunes, and pay a pretty penny for
them as well. But it is the place to find the rare groove you are
looking for.
A-1 Records
439 E. 6th Street
East Village
Ph: 212.473.2871
Want to know where producers like The Beatminerz, DITC, etc. shop
for those rare, funky loops and sounds for their dope tracks? Its
a producers' pipe dream at A-1 records. A-1 also carries a large
selection of old school hip hop records that you will never find
anywhere else.
The Sound Library
Avenue A between 13th-14th Street
New York City, NY
This is the place to find any and every absolutely impossible to
find records. The prices are exorbitant, but the inventory couldn't
be sweeter. It is an abolute tease, but you'll find yourself questioning
whether you could drop the 50 spot for a record you had when you
were 10, and lost in the shuffle of growing up. Trust me, its not
fun going to The Sound Library if you are on a budget, and have
a fiending obsession for rare hip hop records - because they will
always have what you want - and that's either a good thing or a
bad thing.

into Berkeley because you'll be surprised to find a warehouse-like
record store filled with new and used records - dope records at
that. You'll find rows and rows of records, with crates of records
at your feet filled to the top with $1-3 promos. Its a favorite
spot for many locals.

Ph: 415.252.5766
A sexy jazzy record shop run by the guys that own the successful
Ubiquity Record Label, as well as Luv n Haight and Cubop Record
Labels. Like their labels put out, this record store is small, but
filled with funky tunes, old and new. You'll find all the major
producers from USA and UK and all over coming through to this spot
to find that break that they have searched the world over for.
Rasputin's Records

Berkeley, CA
Ph: 510.848.9004
Another
warehouse-like record store on Telegraph in Berkeley. If you didn't
find it at Amoeba, then you'll eventually stroll down the block
to Rasputin's and find what you are looking for.

These stores contain crates and crates of promos, all for $1-5,
so get digging. Steetlight was always the place to go for finding
tunes for less than the market price cuz you could always find the
promo you were looking for in the crates of Streetlight - so bargain
shoppers, check these places out.

Underground (literally) house / dance shop. If you are walking down
the lower Haight area, look down, and hopefully you'll see a little
window with the Tweekin logo illuminated. Find the stairway, and
walk down to basement of hot dance records. My favorite is the back
room, filled with broken beat, and acid-jazzy, Gilles Peterson-induced
grooves.
Zebra
Records
475 Haight St.
San Francisco, CA 94117
Ph: 415-626-9145
A good hip hop and reggae shop. Its similar to Cue's in its inventory.
But they also carry a decent house collection. But your interests
should be in hip hop and turntablism, and reggae to truly appreciate
this place. Also, you can find mixers, needles, etc.
