FULL OVERVIEW:
The DJ art form has been growing and evolving since the early 20th century. Just as the equipment and music has changed over the generations, the DJ culture also changed and started to mean different things to different people. Discothèques, block parties, hip hop and house music all rose to prominence and popularity because of the DJ and the culture that started to surround it. Even today, the DJs impact on pop culture is irrefutable. You see them on commercials, at presidential inaugurations, and even in apps on your phone.
In just two hours The 101 Workshop will give you an overview of the art form’s development and a taste of what it’s like to be a DJ. We’ll provide a little history lesson on important highlights in DJ history, give you a basic breakdown of how to use the equipment, show you how to execute some essential DJ techniques, and supply a glimpse into the technologies that are changing the game today. Most importantly, we’ll be your guide through DJ culture so you can understand what the DJ means to different people and how it has affected the art form’s rise in popular culture.
Participants will spend a large portion of The 101 Workshop receiving hands-on instruction at our DJ stations.
At the end of The 101 Workshop, all participants will compete in a mini DJ battle. The winner will receive a Scratch DJ Academy Semester 01 DVD. As an added bonus, everyone will receive a Scratch DJ Academy T-Shirt and a copy of our book (On the Record).
AFTER THIS COURSE:
When the DJ Workshop is over, you’ll have a basic understanding of the DJ art from, its culture and history. You’ll even know your way around a set of decks. This course is perfect for anyone interested in learning more about the dynamic art form of the DJ.
Guests who complete this workshop are perfect fits for DJ 101 or DJ INT. They can easily sign up for either of these courses and will receive a $50 discount if they register.
