This 6-week course is the next step for DJ 101 students interested
in learning more about mixing and club DJ’ing. The goal of the
course is to get students comfortable with mixing and the creation
of a 6 record club set/mixtape. This course is ideal for DJ 101 students
who want to work on their mixing skills and start to prepare real
sets for a club or party.

Class #1: Mixing Basics
The class will begin by reviewing the mixing basics, making sure that
each student has mastered the concepts behind dropping on the “1”
and beat matching.
Class #2: Creating a Set
Students will continue to work on their beat matching skills using
drills and demonstrations from instructors as a guide. Students will
start to apply mixing techniques to their six record set.
Class #3: Phrasing
This class will focus on music theory across genres and how it applies
to mixing, blending, and EQ’ing. In addition, instructors will
help students order their records and work on transitions for their
six record sets.
Class #4: Transitions
Students will work on intermediate transition techniques including
stop, backspin, and scratching transitions. Students will also review
basic scratching and learn some intermediate scratching techniques.
Class #5: Practice Lab
This class will be dedicated to working on students’ six record
sets. Students will be encouraged to come in during the week to record
their set.
Class #6: Performances
Students will perform their sets to one another and talk about their
experiences during class
