This place is the joint for all you out of towners. You'll go into
this place and find everything you need. Has a huge selection of
hip hop, house, drum and bass, etc. Walk past all the crappy clothing
in the front, and find your vinyl haven in the back.

If you have been to Fat Beats in NYC, then you know the deal. Same
place, same idea, same quality of inventory. Except for the fact
that occasionally you'll spot some dope LA emcees and djs hanging
out in this place.
Prime Cuts

West Hollywood, CA 90046

Nice
collection of rare, used funk, and disco classics in this place.
Its a nice store to venture into off of Santa Monica Blvd. Stop
suntanning, and get dusty up in this piece.

Never been to this place, but have heard that it is quite a legend
in the LA area for house music. They have an online store for all
you out of towners.
Bay
Area
Amoeba Music
2455
Telegraph Ave.
Berkeley, CA 94704
Ph: 415.549.1125
Start your Bay Area record hunt with a trip over the Bay Bridge
into Berkeley because you'll be surprised to find a warehouse-like
record store filled with new and used records - dope records at
that. You'll find rows and rows of records, with crates of records
at your feet filled to the top with $1-3 promos. Its a favorite
spot for many locals.
BPM Music Factory
1141 Polk St.
San Francisco, CA 94109
Ph: 415.567.0276
Fax: 415-567-0428
This
is a legend in the dance music scene in SF. You'll find all the
necessary tunes on wax that makes up the distinct funky deep house
sound of San Francisco.
Cue's
6340 Mission St.
Daly City, CA 94014
Ph: 415.755.1110
Fax: 415.755.1115
Email: djcue@aol.com
This is the definitive hip hop record shop of San Francisco. Its
repped by the ISP crew as well as the rest of the thousands of turntablist
crews in the area. You'll find every damn break record that you
need there, as well as replacement slipmats and needles, etc. for
all your battle needs.
Groove
Merchant
687
Haight St.
San Francisco, CA 94117
Ph: 415.252.5766
A sexy jazzy record shop run by the guys that own the successful
Ubiquity Record Label, as well as Luv n Haight and Cubop Record
Labels. Like their labels put out, this record store is small, but
filled with funky tunes, old and new. You'll find all the major
producers from USA and UK and all over coming through to this spot
to find that break that they have searched the world over for.
Rasputin's Records
2350 Telegraph Ave.
Berkeley, CA
Ph: 510.848.9004
Another
warehouse-like record store on Telegraph in Berkeley. If you didn't
find it at Amoeba, then you'll eventually stroll down the block
to Rasputin's and find what you are looking for.
Streetlight Records (on 24th)
3979 - 24th St.
San Francisco, CA 94114
Ph: 415.282.3550
Streetlight Records (on Market)
2350 Market St.
San Francisco, CA 94114
Ph: 415.282.8000
These stores contain crates and crates of promos, all for $1-5,
so get digging. Steetlight was always the place to go for finding
tunes for less than the market price cuz you could always find the
promo you were looking for in the crates of Streetlight - so bargain
shoppers, check these places out.
Tweekin
Records

Haight St.
San Francisco, CA 94117
Toll: 800.400.6995
Ph: 415.626.6995
Fax: 415.626.5206
Email: tweekin@netcom.com
Underground (literally) house / dance shop. If you are walking down
the lower Haight area, look down, and hopefully you'll see a little
window with the Tweekin logo illuminated. Find the stairway, and
walk down to basement of hot dance records. My favorite is the back
room, filled with broken beat, and acid-jazzy, Gilles Peterson-induced
grooves.
Zebra
Records
475 Haight St.
San Francisco, CA 94117
Ph: 415-626-9145
A good hip hop and reggae shop. Its similar to Cue's in its inventory.
But they also carry a decent house collection. But your interests
should be in hip hop and turntablism, and reggae to truly appreciate
this place. Also, you can find mixers, needles, etc.
